The Independence Meteorite

Edward Keelsing         Edward Keesling heard a hissing/buzzing sound, and then observed a dark object falling to the ground on the side of a dirt road.

What he picked up was an 880 gram stone pictured below, this was kept by him until his death. It was also lost for a time in the 1940's.

After his death (1962) the stone went to his son. His son James and his wife(who never had any children) kept the piece until it was purchased in the year 2000, some 90 years after its fall.

James unfortunately passed away in the late 1980's thus the reason his wife, Ann, acquired the stone.

This makes the 21st meteorite discovered in Missouri.
Below is a small slice that displays a nice brown matrix
with lots of metal flakes throughout.
